LGBTQ+ Issues in Counseling

This presentation will include an introduction to the acronyms and abbreviations related to the LGBTQ+ community as well as understanding the differences between sexuality and gender issues. Clarification will be provided as to some of the specialized needs of this community and barriers to access to care. Information will be provided on how to create safe spaces for patients and staff as well. Guidance will also be provided for staff who are wishing to refer patients to other providers and how to check for competence and skill in working with the community. Less...

About the speaker

Robert Moore, LCPC

Robert Moore, LCPC

Robert is joining the Sandstone Care team as a Regional Clinical Director. Robert currently lives in Chicago, IL but is a native of Michigan. Robert holds a full counseling license in Michigan and is licensed in Illinois as an LCPC. Robert began his professional career as a high school biology teacher and varsity track coach. Soon thereafter, Robert became a Licensed Michigan School Counselor. Over the next fifteen years Robert has transitioned into working in the clinical arena. Robert has working in almost every level of care from outpatient to residential and even worked as a screener for inpatient hospitalization. His true passion lies in working with and specializing in treatment for the LGBTQ+ community. Not only is Robert a proud part of this community but holds counseling credentials to work specifically with these populations. Robert’s motto is “it’s all about the relationships,” and this translates to his work relationships as well as patient care. Robert enjoys teaching and coaching his staff and sharing the many skills and techniques that he has learned in practice over the years. Robert’s loves living near the lake and enjoy the city views of Chicago and tries to escape the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee whenever possible.
